Belle: I was just wanting to practice what you taught me. Is that okay? Do you want me to move?
Cyan: I don't mind. Take your time. I'll just observe, see how much you remember.
I stood and watched her play for a while. She was doing really well.
Cyan: Wow, I'm impressed. You are doing great!
Belle: *blushing* Thanks, you taught me well.
I walk past her to the couch to sit down while she played. I hear her get up from the bench, and turn to see her, only to find her right behind me. Damn, she moves fast.
Cyan: Oh, didn't see you there. Are you okay?
Belle: Yeah, I-I just wanted to tell you...that I really like you Cyan. I just feel so drawn to you, and I want to be more than just friends.
Cyan: I feel the same way. I can't get you out of my mind. It sounds so creepy when I say that out loud.
Belle: *giggles* You're so cute, Cyan.
I pull her into an embrace and we stay that way for a few minutes, neither of us wanting to move.
The embrace, slowly transitioned into a kiss. Our first kiss, and it was amazing.
After the kiss, we hugged some more. I didn't want this moment to end.
That was until things changed, Belle stiffened as if stressed out all of a sudden.
Cyan: Is something wrong, Belle?
Belle: No, you just...smell so good...
Cyan: What are you...?
Then I feel a sharp pain in my neck. I flinch and try to pull away.
Cyan: What the...?
I free myself from her grasp and get a quick glimpse of her face before she quickly turns away from me. Her face, what's wrong with her face?
Cyan: Belle?
Belle: I'm sorry. I need to go.
She starts quickly walking towards the door.
Cyan: Where are you going? What just happened?
No answer. She just walks through the door, and disappears. What has gotten into her? What did she do to me?
I looked in the mirror when I got home to find two circular bite marks on my neck. What the hell?
I spent the next two days trying to get a hold of her. No luck, she's not answering my calls or texts. She hasn't been at school either, which is not like her. There is something going on, something she's keeping from me.
Ivy: Cyan, what's that on your neck?
Cyan: N-nothing Mom, I just scratched myself in my sleep, I guess. It's all good.
Ivy: Okay...?
I can tell she doesn't believe me, but she didn't push it further. I think she suspects something. I mean, I know she doesn't like Belle because she has a weird feeling about her, so I'm sure she thinks Belle has something to do with this. And she's not wrong.
.................................................................................................................................................................
One afternoon, she finally showed up at Music Club. After everyone left, I decided to confront her about what happened.
Cyan: So you finally came back, huh? I want to talk to you.
Cyan: So mind telling me what happened? I mean I know you bit me, but I don't understand.
Belle: I'm so sorry, Cyan. I didn't mean to...
Cyan: Please tell me, Belle. What are you?
Belle: I thought that it was obvious. You aren't that dumb are you? The signs are all there.
Cyan:...
Now that I think about it, she's right. I never see her outside in the sun for long periods of time, the attraction I have to her, then the marks she left on my neck. I should've realized right away. I'm such an idiot. I sit silently for a good ten minutes when she finally speaks.
Belle: Oh my God. I'm a vampire, okay? Is that what you want to hear? That your girlfriend is a monster?!
I was hoping that I was wrong, that I was just imagining things, but it seems my suspicions were true. It took a moment for that to sink in.
Belle: Like I said, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to bite you; I lost control, which is something that doesn't happen with me. Ever. But there's something different about you, something I can't keep myself away from. Your blood was just calling to me...You hate me now. I get it. I'll keep my distance from now on. Maybe I'll change schools so I'm not tempted to attack you again.
Cyan: What? No, Belle. I don't hate you. I'm shocked, considering I thought vampires were just a myth, but this doesn't change how I feel about you. I love you for who you are, not what you are.
Belle: Seriously? I mean, I bit you, drank your blood...
Cyan: I don't care. I stand by what I said. I love you.
We sat silently for a while, thinking about the situation. Then I got to thinking about something. Something I was curious about, but afraid to know the answer to.
Cyan: So...I'm not going to..
Belle: Turn? No, you'll be fine.
Cyan: I have been feeling different since the incident. I feel sick.
Belle: Like I said, you'll be fine, it's just from the blood loss, and your body recovering from the shock. It should pass within the next few days.
Cyan: So, are the myths about vampires true?
Belle: Some of it. We drink blood, obviously; we don't have reflections. We can't tolerate a lot of sunlight, but we don't burn to death if exposed to it. However, we are not immortal like legends say. Faster, and stronger, yes, but we still age and die just like humans. And most of the time, vampires are born, not created. Does that answer your question?
Cyan: Uh, yeah. Thanks. So you were born a vampire?
Belle: Yes.
Cyan: Wow. Okay, I'll stop with the questions. You wanna go get something to eat?
Belle: Thanks, but I don't...eat, remember?
Cyan: Oh, right, duh. Sorry. It's going to take some getting used to.
Belle: Well, I've got schoolwork to catch up on anyway. I'll see you later, okay?
Cyan: Yeah, see you when I see you.
She leaves and I'm still letting this all sink in. I can't believe that she's a vampire, a 'monster' as she puts it. Ever since the incident she's been distant, as if she's afraid or embarrassed of what she did. I don't blame her, but I'm not afraid or angry at her. I love her no matter what happens, and nothing is going to change that.
Little did I know, something was changing. Me.
