Cyan, there's something I need to talk to you about.
Cyan: Sure, Mom. Coming.
I tried to compose myself to deliver the dreaded news, but I broke down in tears.
Cyan: What's wrong Mom? Why are you crying?
Ivy: *sniffling* Have a seat on the bed. Something bad has happened.
Ivy: Cyan, honey, there's been an accident.
Cyan: What kind of accident?
Ivy: A car accident...involving Grandma and Grandpa. They didn't make it. I know how close you were to them. I'm so sorry, sweetie.
Cyan gets up without a word and goes to his room. I was stunned. I've never seen him look so defeated and sad. I went to check on him later on after giving him time to process the news and found him sound asleep. I'm hoping he will bounce back from this pretty fast. I hate seeing him so depressed.
It's amazing how much of roller coaster life can be, with so many ups and downs. And after all the sadness with losing my parents, it was nice when things started to look up again.
Six months after my parents passed, I got the surprise of a lifetime.
*knock, knock*
Ivy: I'll be right there.
I open the door and my jaw dropped.
Misty: Hey, Mom.
Ivy: Misty, is that you? And Parsley too?
Parsley: Yes, Mom. We wanted to meet you.
Ivy: Come on in. I can't believe you're here. I haven't seen you in person since you were babies.
Misty: Rose told us about you, and we decided it was time to finally meet.
I hug them both, still reeling from the shock. I never thought this moment would happen, and I was ecstatic.
Ivy: Make yourself at home. My son, your brother, Cyan should be home soon. He'll love to meet you.
As if on cue, Cyan walks in the door.
Ivy: Cyan, sweetie, I have people I'd like you to meet.
Cyan: Really? Cool!
Cyan joins us at the table.
Ivy: Cyan, I know I never mentioned this before, but when I was young, and not ready for kids, I got pregnant and had a set of twins. These two are those twins. Meet your sister, Misty and your brother Parsley.
Cyan: Wow! I have siblings? Awesome. *looking at Misty* You're so much bigger than me!
Misty: Haha, yeah just a little. Nice to meet you, Cyan.
Cyan: You're so pretty, sis.
Misty: Aw, thank you...bro.
Cyan sits there, mystified by the fact that he has a brother and sister.
Cyan: Hi, bro. I'm Cyan!
Parsley: Hi, kiddo. I'm glad to meet you.
The twins hang around for a while and we got to know each other. This was such a nice surprise after all that's happened lately.
When the two left, Cyan walks up to me while I'm in the kitchen, and asks me the question. The one I've spent years preparing myself for.
Cyan: Mom, where's my dad?
Ivy: Well, Cyan, honey, he...he died when you were a baby. He loved you very much.
Cyan: How'd he die?
Ivy: He was...sick, very sick. Cancer.
Cyan: Oh. What did he look like?
Ivy: He looked like, well, you, except with more bluish eyes.
Cyan: Oh.
Ivy: Hold on, I'll be right back.
I run to my bedroom and pull a box out from under the bed, and bring it into the kitchen.
Ivy: Here, honey, take this.
Cyan: What is it?
Ivy: Open it and see.
Cyan: It's a book..?
Ivy: It's a photo album. I'm sure there's a photo of your father in there somewhere among other family members.
Cyan: Awesome! Thanks Mom.
Ever since I gave him the album, he's been studying it religiously, hoping to find a glimpse of his father. Will he find any trace of Turq? I don't think so.
